This coming Sunday, October 20th 7-9 PM, join @indiebookfairatx for an evening of readings by Austin Horror writers!

With guest host Richard Santos, a seasoned writer, editor, and educator, we will briefly discuss the writing process and all the special ingredients that make a chilling short story before introducing our writers, who will read from their original works. We will also be taking donations that will directly benefit the 2025 Austin Indie Book Fair.

Quacks’s is so proud to welcome Under The Rock back to the Soundspace stage !

October’s addition to the amazing Under the Rock series hosted by UT professor Aaron Rochlen features Jo James and Dusty Miller and the Spurflowers Thursday, October 24 · 7 – 9:30pm CDT. Doors at 6:30pm!

Jo James started playing music when he was just 8 years old, entertaining crowds at church. Now, he’s a staple in the Austin music scene with a loyal following and unique sound. With a style that integrates blues, soul, and rock – his performances are heartfelt and powerful, with spiritual and highly relatable lyrics. Prone to introspection himself, Mr. James is and ideal candidate for Under The Rock.

Dusty Miller and the Spurflowers are making major inroads Austin based on their lively performance, powerful stories and unique blend of traditional country with folk, and rock. Known for their heartfelt lyrics, infectious melodies, and powerful vocals don’t be surprised to find a few “Tears in your Lonestar” by the end of the night. Look for lots of lessons learned, from Dusty and company — far before the alarm goes off at “3:45”

Under The Rock is an innovative new series showcasing acoustic performances from top-level local artists. Facilitated by Dr. Aaron Rochlen, a Professor, Psychologist, & connected music guy, each concert features lyrical discussions and ideas for how audience member can learn, reflect, and relate from the listening experience. An award-winning presenter, “Doc Rock” frequently uses music in his courses & clinical work.

A percentage of profits from each “Under The Rock” concert will be given to HAAM, which provides access to affordable healthcare to greater-Austin’s low-income working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness.
