Mike Bull, British bass guru, cut his teeth at Southampton’s storied Joiners before carrying his roomy, swinging groove to Glastonbury and New York, where he backed legends like Johnny Winter and Big Mama Thornton.. Dexter Walker swings the drums with the finesse of a jazz man and the swagger of a rock ‘n’ roll outlaw—because he’s been both, backing Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson, Ray Benson, and more legends than most of us have vinyl. And Tim Curran? His band once opened for George Jones himself. That’s not a résumé—that’s scripture.
Fronting this force is Ben Livingston, a National Endowment for the Arts-fellow who wandered off the light-sculpting path and straight into songwriting with a possum grin and a switchblade. He brings a mix of sharp wit and soul-deep storytelling that keeps the whole thing teetering on a WTF? tightrope all night long.
Put ‘em all together, and it’s definitely not your daddy’s Americana. Hell, it’s barely tethered to this dimension.
What Ben + Shigidee Shigidee creates isn’t polished—it’s broken in. And that’s the whole point—If you don’t groove, laugh, dance, or question your life choices before the set’s over, you might wanna check your pulse.
